Electronic Mail Assignments

  • Open an e-mail account at gaggle.net or other school approved e-mail account. Establish an address book with your teacher's e-mail and a group's addresses. E-mail you teacher and tell with a message: You are in my address book.
    • Always include a subject.
    • Always sign your name.
  • E-mail your group with a message: Welcome to my group.
    • Always include a subject.
    • Always sign your name.
Etiquette for Electronic Mail
Shouting - DON'T SHOUT! Messages in all upper case letters are hard to read and also very

irritating. This is commonly called shouting.

Correct Addressing - Be certain that your message is addressed to the person you want to send it to. It is very easy to misdirect your own mail or to send it to large groups by mistake.

Quotability - Keep in mind that you are sending mail on electronic paper. Anything you send can be easily printed or forwarded to others.

Who Sent It? - Before you act on a message make sure it was sent to you from the person it claims to be from.

Your Tone - Watch the tone of what you write. What may sound funny in speech can sound

aggressive, abrupt, or just plain rude in e-mail.

Other People's Tone - You should also carefully read what others write. Their tone may not be what it seems.

Suitable Content - Do not be coarse, vulgar, or suggestive. Not only are these unacceptable, but you are putting them on electronic paper. They may well hang around and haunt you.

Flaming - Flaming is when you write a message, obviously in anger, and "say what you think". This usually makes the author look foolish and immature.
