Prerequisite: English 11 Honors, AP English may be taken by juniors upon completion of English 11 Honors with permission of instructor.

Emphasis is on the relationship of literature to social and political developments from the classical period through the Renaissance and Reformation. Materials are taken from language arts, fine arts and social sciences. Writing includes the critical essay. This class may be taken as an elective in grade 11; Humanities may be taken as an elective or English credit in grade 12.
Prerequisite: English 11 Honors or permission of instructor.

This course is designed for seniors as an alternative to Advanced Placement Literature/Language and composition or as an elective. Emphasis is on refinement of expository writing techniques including the writing of thesis, selection of supporting details, and organization of ideas. Literary works and excerpts are used as models and sources for writing based on student needs and backgrounds.

WORLD LITERATURE

Objectives of this course offered only at the Career and Technology Center include an examination of oral language choices, the use of specialized reference material, and distinguishing between fact and interference. Students are required to apply grammar, usage, and composition skills in writing assignments, which include sentence outlines and critical analyses.
